In class, we watched the trailer of a movie " W.E ". I'm going to try to sum up what I could undestand 

In 1998 a woman discovered letters form 1936 that reveal the story between a prince and a woman through the girl's point of view. The woman that felt in love with the prince wants everyone to know that story ! The problem is before, this kind of relationship was forbidden because of the different social background !

The king's name is Edward and the woman is divorced. That's the reason why Edward will give up the throne in order to marry her and have a normal life.

W.E is an historical movie because it's based on real facts.

I'm not sure about that but to me " W.E " are the inicials of the king & his love which refers to the couple like " WE, the couple "

Hey everyone !

I'm writting this message to introduce the topic of the 3rd trimester which is about Women And Challenges ! As you know, a few days ago women didn't have the same rights as today. I mean that they were not allowed to do the same things they do nowadays ! For exemple, in the past women had to look after children, cook, do the housework, they couldn't work, vote etc. They actually were housewives ! And if they managed to earn a bit of money, they had to give everything to their husband. Men were like the bosses, they did what they wanted and considered women as a second class citizen. 

But, fortunately some women reacted to this situation. It was like a form of rebellion. They fought for gender equality by marching against women's position and managed to extend women's rights.  

Let me introduce one women who fought for equality (there are some other !) ! 

Emmeline Pankhurst (born Emmeline Goulden) (15 July 1858 – 14 June 1928) was a British political activist and leader of the British suffragette movement which helped women win the right to vote.

Now, let's move on nowadays !

Women reached the same rights as men, they can vote, work, use their money, express themsleves, they also can be a president or a queen ! 

But some differencies are still here. For exemple, in private jobs women are less paid than men and they still do more in the house like coocking, housekeeping etc. But a lot of men help their wife and women don't depend on men anymore, they are totally independent and they do what they want. 

"Titanic" was the name of an English transatlantic liner. It was built from 1909 till 1912 by a famous architect, Thomas Andrews. It's Joseph Bruce Ismay, a businessman who took the initiative of creating it.

It was the most luxury boat ever (46,000 Tons - 24 knots- 3 different backgrounds - dark room - restaurants - etc.) a bit like a "little" city ! That's the reason why, one ticket cost a lot ! 

This boat was supposed to leave Southampton (England) to go to New York (USA). Here is the journey : 

During its first (and last) journey, the steamship collided with an iceberg (April 14th) at about 11:40pm . Then, the water rushed the boat and it sank a few hours later (April 15th) at 2:20am near Canada.

2,200 passengers where on board more than 800 people died and 60% of the first background survived -  25% of the second background did too.

They where not enough lifeboats to evacuate everyone (I think that's anormal, maybe they didn't think a deadly catastrophe could happen because too much poeple looked up to this liner) 

As you surely know, this year (2012) is the 100th Anniversary of the titanic sinking. On television, they broadcast the film " titanic" to celebrate it. This film realeased in 1997 to reconstruct Titanic first journey through a love story between two young poeple, Rose (1st background-Rich-About to get marry) and Jack (2nd background-Poor-Single) that fell in love during the journey. Rose is fed up with her rich and stupid family, she doesn't like being "polite" and wants to escape with Jack when they arrive at New York. (If you want to know more, watch the film ! I watched it a lot of time ! It's really cool !). This movie was directed, written, co-produced and co-edited by James Cameron, a Canadian film Director. 

Hi , I recorded a podcast about Jane Eyre. I'm talking about the movie and the main character, Jane. I know, I didn't say everything but I just wanted to use Audacity in order to understand how it works. I managed to put a soundtrack, you can hear the waves, it sounds great !

In class, we listened to two American girls talking about 9-11

Here is what I understood

First Girl :

- She was 16 and she was at school when she heard people saying one plane had just hit the World Trade Center. She believed it was a hoax because something as important as this couldn't happend in New York (you can't realize). But when she entered his car to go back come, by turning on the radio she suddenly understood something really dangerous was happening. As well, the radio was telling another plane had just hit the WTC once more. The day after, at school, they watched the news on TV.

Second Girl :

- She also was at school and she heard poeple talking about an attack striking The World Trade Center. The problem is she didn't know what the WTC was, where it was, what it was for etc. But then, she had more information, she watched TV (CNN) at home to learn more and more about this fact. After that, she was aware that something was happening in the USA. She was so worried about that. His country was in danger.

We can say new technologies make our world smaller (thanks to internet, the news, and tv)  but our opinions are still vast !

 October 30, 1983 - The Day Before Halloween

TRUE STORY

At this moment, everything was fine in the United-States, every States was preparing itself to party Halloween. Children were looking forward to knocking at doors dressed as monsters. Anyway, everything was as usual... Till people from New Jersey turned on their radios. But the air was taken by an anxious voice saying a huge metorite just smashed into a New Jersey farm.  " New York was under attack by Martians... " Every inhabitants suddenly started calling the police in order to be safe, everyone felt like the world was ending, everyone was shacking with fear, everyone felt overwhelmed, everyone thought apocalypse was coming...

But It wasn't. It was actually a hoax ! The message their heard was an adaptation by Orson Welles's Mercury Theater group, of a science fiction novel written 40 years earlier : The War Of The World, by HG Wells. It was performed to sound like a real news broadcast about an invasion from Mars. 

 FUNNY ! Isnt it ? I think this man has good ideas !

We've all heard about the end of the world planed in 2012 but nobody really knows if that's true or false. The Maya's calendar stops in december 21th that's why lots of people thinks it's a prediction planing apocalypse but some scientists proved anything is going to happen. 

" There is a small segment of the market where sales are surprisingly strong. A growing number of Americans are preparing for the end of the world as we know it they believe the end is near and so they are preparing buying bunkers properties with high tech amenities "

In class, we saw a video that deals with a bunker located in a desert not far from Los Angeles wich was built during the cold war. Bunkers were disigned after a luxury boat In wich people can live for one year or more because it includes a hospital, food, bedrooms, bathrooms... and a movie theatre. This luxury bunker costs 50,000$ per adult and 25,000$ per child. Bunker are in fact like shelter to survive the end of the world. 

Here is where are bunkers in the United-States,

we can say that they really believe in apocalypse !

HOLIDAYS ARE FINISHED, IT'S TIME TO SAY : OFF TO SCHOOL ! 

By reading my English binder, I thought of writting something about the text " HOME SWEET HOME " by Gary Soto because I liked it so much. 

This story deals with a Mexican boy that whatched a program called" Leave It To Beaver " wich is about an American Family. He suddenly feels confused and asks questions to his mother. He just tells the differencies he noticed between his Mexican Family and this peculiar way of life (US) that seems better as his life.
